Everton vs Manchester United - Ronaldo Return

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Cristiano Ronaldo is back for this Saturday lunch time kick-off at Goodison Park with Manchester United looking to register the first away win against Everton. Ronaldo return after three match suspension following his sent-off against Reading for head-butting, meanwhile Wayne Rooney has also returned to training and could be on the bench against Everton.

The chances of Rooney playing is extremely low but next week cruncher against Chelsea looks more prospect while The Red Devils is looking to continue the two-year unbeaten track record at the Goodison Park. Ronaldo return is likely to add more spice to United attack given United only scored a total three times despite having what on paper would be the dream attack force for others team. (more…)

Manchester United will have early kick-off on Saturday, September 15. United will travel to Goodison Park for 12.00UK time kick-off.

No fresh injury news for United. A win and 3 points is a must from this games for United to close the gap on early pacesetter Liverpool.

Update on injury, it is confirmed that John O’Shea is out for a number of weeks after the Irishman picked up a knee injury in the Czech Republic on Wednesday, while Darren Fletcher is also facing a lengthly spell on the sidelines after being the receiving end of a bad challenge by Patrick Vieira during the early stages of Scotland vs France Euro qualifier.

England 3-0 Russia: Owen Shows

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Owen Scored against RussiaEngland second 3-0 win in double header Euro 2008 qualifier matches against Israel and Russia at Wembley have suddenly turn themselves as favorite to win the group.

Michael Owen hit 40th goal for England, he scored in the opening 7th minute pouncing on a loose ball in penalty area to slot home with his right foot. His second was spectacular, scoring with half volley assist by Heskey headed down ball after squeezing between two Russia defenders in the 31st minute.

Rio Ferdinand wrap up the score sheet by slotting home in the 84th minute after some good work by Owen in the penalty area. His second international goal since the 2002 World Cup. So, six month after suffering the worst abuse ever directed at an England manger, Steve McClaren now knows that England require just five points from the remaining three games to qualify, providing one of them comes in the return meeting with Russia next month. Neville returning soon; Expect more from United

Gary Neville Injured Since March 06

MANCHESTER UNITED captain Gary Neville could return for the Premier League champions against Chelsea on Sept 23 after ankle and thigh injuries have sidelined him since March. “Hopefully in the next week or two I’ll be back and I hope to be playing games in the next couple of weeks definitely,” Neville told Manchester United’s TV channel. “I think (this weekend’s) Everton game is going to be too soon, I think it will probably be after that.

Meanwhile, Gary Neville has warned his team-mates they cannot afford any more slip-ups in the title race. “I didn’t expect us to go away to teams and lose, I expect us to be consistent like we were like year. Losing one to three games is acceptable but losing more than three would be very hard to pull back the lose points.

Park Ji Sung

South Korean star Park Ji-Sung has highlighted Guus Hiddink the manager of Russia as the biggest influence on his career rather than Sir Alex Ferguson, but sees similarities between the two.

The midfield dynamo, who is out of action until at least January with an injured right knee, said he owed a lot to Hiddink, the former coach of South Korea and PSV Eindhoven. After being snubbed by a number of clubs in Korea, Ji-Sung Park attended Myung-Ji University to continue his footballing career.

Park’s first professional contract was at (more…)

Three Lions Finally Bites

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Haha! The title sound quite weird right? Not so for me, after all this is England’s head coach Steve McClaren’s first win at Wembley. More interesting, the team has missed some couple of “big” names. Frank fat Lampard not playing, Hargreaves out, David Beckham suffering injury in LA Galaxy matches, hence, who has been drafted in to fill the void?

Shaun Wright-Phillips, Emile Heskey, Gareth Barry and Micah Richards filling the right-back slot for the injured Gary Neville. The former three was a direct replacement for David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard. (more…)

It’s a mistake on Jaap Stam

Jaap Stam

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he was too quick to write off former defender Jaap Stam. In August 2001 Ferguson accepted the offer from Lazio for £16.5million for the then 29 years old center back, an offer Fergie insist he couldn’t refuse. Sir Alex also cited the reason for Jaap Stam exit from Old Trafford was due to Stam’s inability to regain top form following an Achilles injury.

However, many football pundits and I in particular assumed his book was the reason behind his departure. Prior to 2001-2002 season, Stam published his autobiography which he claimed that Ferguson had illegally tapped him up before buying him from PSV Eindhoven and revelaed blunt insights from the United dressing room.

The move initiated by Ferguson was one of his few errors during more than two decades in charge at Old Trafford. Following Sta’s departur, United failed to win a trophy in that 2001-2002 season which was meant to be Ferguson’s last in charge before he performed a U-turn on his scheduled retirement.

In contrast, Ferguson brought in Laurent Blanc, the French defender who was approaching his 36th birthday to fill the void. Blanc presence on the field was not a liability for United, his reading of the game and his experience do help the United young defenders.
