Man Utd’s West Ham blues continue

Manchester United awful records against West Ham continue today, as the Red Devils slip to a 2-1 defeat having leading from Ronaldo goal in the first half. However, late goals by Anton Ferdinand (77) and Matthew Upson (82) screw United down.

Arsenal have been handed the chance to move back to the summit of Premier League by their London neighbour West Ham.

Manchester United’s title hopes suffered a dent at West Ham after the home side came back from behind to win 2-1. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side had been on course to go four points clear of Arsenal, whose game at Everton was the day’s late kick-off, once Cristiano Ronaldo had given them a 14th-minute lead.

But last season’s player of the year then missed a penalty to allow the home side to mount a stirring fight-back that saw first substitute Anton Ferdinand and then fellow defender Matthew Upson head home from set-pieces. (more…)

George McCartney wants West Ham to use the spirit of last season’s amazing relegation escape as they prepare to face the top two teams in the Barclays Premier League. The Hammers are up against Manchester United on Saturday and Arsenal three days later.

But belief stems from Alan Curbishley’s men doing the league double over both teams last season - when they completed the most unlikely of survival bids. “It is going to be very tough,” said McCartney on WHUTV. (more…)

Perfect free kick down to extra practiceSir Alex Ferguson has ridiculed the theories over Cristiano Ronaldo’s free-kicks and says the winger’s success is down to practice.

Manchester United ace Ronaldo curled home a superb free-kick at Sunderland on Boxing Day which had the purists purring.

His effort during United’s 4-0 win at the Stadium of Light led to a number of suggestions being put forward about how Ronaldo manages to get such swerve and dip on the ball.

One theory is that he tries to make contact with the valve on the ball, which then moves around violently making it almost impossible for a goalkeeper to stop. (more…)
