Man Utd eyes Portuguese

Monday, December 31st, 2007

A Man Utd target for defensive dutyManchester United assistant manager Carlos Quieroz has confirmed the club are tracking Porto defender Jose Bosingwa.

Sir Alex is thought to be drawing up a list of targets as he searches for a long-term replacement for Gary Neville. With doubt surrounding Neville’s fitness and Wes Brown set to leave at the end of the season after rejecting new deal, Ferguson is keeping tabs on the progress of Boswinga.

United have showed a liking for the Portuguese market after bringing in Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson recent years, and Boswinga could be the next.

Queiroz is quoted in the Daily Mail saying:  “There are some Porto players good enough to play for United if they want to Jose is one of them.

Aston Villa are also thought to be keen on Bosingwa as well.

Fergie : Massive chance being at the top

Fergie - Arsenal have massive chance

Sir Alex Ferguson have admitted there is  “massive chance” Arsenal will now go on to take the Barclays Premier League crown. Fergie regards being top at New Year as one of the season’s significant milestones and that positions in now occupied by the Gunners who won 4-1 at Everton to go to points clear after the Red Devils had stumbled to a 2-1 defeat at West Ham.

He always said being at the top by New Year, you have a massive chance. Obviously United still have a great chance but to lose at West Ham was really a disappointing scenario, Ronaldo could have put United 2-0 up that would have virtually killed West Ham fight back resistance, instead Ronaldo blasted his penalty kick well wide of the target - that a signs of over confidence from my point of view.

The new year which starts the day after Ferguson’s 66th birthday - begins with a home game with Birmingham, who are managed by one of his former players at Aberdeen, Alex McLeish

Hopefully, Wayne Rooney with fellow illness victim Michael Carrick  should be fine for the new year match.

£1M Christmas Party for Ferdinand & Co.

Monday, December 31st, 2007

Rio Ferdinand slapped with christmas finedManchester United’s party animals have reportedly been fined a grand total of £1m for the Christmas bash that ended in a rape arrest.

Sir Alex Ferguson has apparently ‘torn into them every day’ since the party which dominated front pages for two days as details emerged of depraved behaviour during a 15-hour booze binge.

The News of the World claims that players have been fined on a sliding scale depending on how much they earn, with the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney copping the biggest fine as well as the biggest rollickings.

They’ve also been banned from having any more parties after the £4,000-a-night bash which involved 100 women, one of whom has claimed she was raped by Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.

Ferguson seems likely to bring up the players’ disgraceful behaviour again after their 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Saturday which saw them drop back into second place in the table.
