Arsenal Pull Clear - 5 points exactly

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Arsenal’s Monday night win over Blackburn at the Emirates stadium has enabled them to pull five points clear of second place Manchester United with 12 league game to go.

United has lost all the 4 games when Rooney was not playing either due to injuries or suspensions and in all those 4 games, Ronaldo has a off day, a below par performance or unable to provide a match winner performance (usually in Rooney’s absence, it has to be said).

Has the trip to Saudi start to bring the effect to United team? Or the striker shortage that we badly needed has come to haunt us?

The Red Devils form has declined since coming back from Saudi trip, first was the match against Tottenham, clearly United were not at their fluent best at White Hart Lane indeed a very lucky injury time equalizer from Carlos Teves save United out jail.

With Louis Saha unable to clear off his injuries mystery and Ferguson happily pay-cheque him even when he seem to be always on the treatment table has started to haunt on the Red Devils quest for the glories.

Louis Saha has even earned himself a nicknamed called Balsa Man. You can click on the “Balsa link” to read out the story from Footbal365.com

In what Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that his squad is the “strongest I have ever had”, United bench proved otherwise. What I could say is the “strongest ever crowded central midfield” Sir Alex ever had. Michael Carrick, Owen Hargreaves, Paul Scholes, Oliviera Anderson and Darren Fletcher.

Michael Carrick, Owen Hargreaves and another midfielder Park Ji-Sung all sit on the bench, another 2 available slots went to Danny Simpson and keeper Kuszcazk. What clearly went wrong was there were no striker making the bench not even from the reserve.

The inquest is under way at Old Trafford, though, with United fans hoping Ferguson won’t be left to rue keeping his chequebook locked away in January. Lets hope United plot another storm back to the Premier League title when the curtain close in May.

Man United 1-2 Man City : City first double since 1970

Old Trafford remembers Busby Babes

On the day when Manchester remembered those who lost their lives 50 years ago in the Munich air disaster, the blue half of the city dealt a major blow to red dreams of retaining the Premier League by running out 2-1 victors.

City fans behaved impeccably during an emotional minute’s silence and their team were just as impressive. The visitors completed a league double over their neighbours for the first time since 1970 and their first win at Old Trafford since 1974.

For City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, it was three wins out of three against Sir Alex Ferguson. He has added this priceless double to a European Super Cup triumph over United in 1999 when he was at Lazio.

This ended United’s 13-match winning streak, their best run in 103 years, and gave Arsenal a real boost at the top of the table.

Darius Vassell and new boy Benjani Mwaruwari scored first-half goals for City and United’s only reply was in injury-time from Michael Carrick.

The Old Trafford pitch was ringed ahead of the game by the names of every one of the 23 who died as a result of the 1958 tragedy in Germany. (more…)

Sir Alex not impress with referee Mark Clattenbur

Manchester United earned a vital point deep in injury time against Tottenham but still lost top place in the Barclays Premier League following the 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane. Carlos Tevez celebrated the equaliser with the last move of the game, even though the ball appeared to come off Michael Dawson.

Earlier, United players were furious at Dimitar Berbatov’s opener for Tottenham as they felt Jermaine Jenas handled in the build-up before Aaron Lennon eventually crossed. Edwin van der Sar vented his frustration at assistant referee Mo Matadar and earned a booking, one of six yellow cards for United which means they could face action from the Football Association. Paul Scholes magic feet

Sir Alex Ferguson believes experienced midfielder Paul Scholes could play an important part in Manchester United’s bid this season to match their treble achievement of 1999.

The 33-year-old former England midfielder made a substitute appearance in last weekend’s 3-1 FA Cup victory over Tottenham Hotspur ending three months out following a knee operation.

“Something special seems to happen when the ball goes to him. He has an innate sense of composure about him,” said United boss Ferguson. “The game just seems to stop so he controls it. He is an amazing player. (more…)

Ronaldo bullet freekick booms past David JamesCristiano Ronaldo steered Manchester United back to the top of the table with his second brace in the space of three days as the Red Devils beat Portsmouth 2-0. With England manager Fabio Capello looking on they took the game by the scruff of the neck inside the first quarter.

United made the breakthrough in the 10th minute after an incisive break which dismantled Portsmouth - and the visitors never recovered. Nani showed superb vision to pick out Ronaldo and he took full advantage with a cool finish.

That put United firmly in the driving seat early in the match. It did not take Ronaldo long to add to his tally, either, with James stranded as a magnificent 25-yard free-kick whistled past his left shoulder in the 13th minute. (more…)
