Brown may still stay - Gill

Manchester United chief executive David Gill ‘thinks’ Wes Brown wants to stay at Old Trafford. The defender’s contract expires at the end of the season and he has rejected all offers of an extension to date.
The Premier League champions are not planning to increase their offer for the England international, who was the subject of a recent bid from Newcastle United.
Gill confirmed the Red Devils’ intention to hang on to the 28-year-old and is optimistic Brown will accept a deal to stay.
“We would clearly want Wes to stay,” said Gill in the Daily Star.
“He’s a local boy who has come through the ranks. I think he wants to stay.
“We’ve made him what we believe is an excellent offer, but we’ve not reached an agreement. So we’ll see how it unfolds.”
Reports claim Newcastle’s offer for Brown was £400,000 and Gill does not expect to receive a sizeable bid during the transfer window.
He added: “It is unlikely that a club would come in and offer something substantial for him when he is out of contract in the summer.”
