Almunia pondering his nation calorSpanish goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has refused to rule out switching his national colours to England.

The 30-year-old Arsenal keeper was born in Pamplona but is yet to receive a call from Spain’s national team boss Luis Aragones, and in a year he will qualify for England.

One of the first tasks for new England coach Fabio Capello will be to solve his own goalkeeping conundrum with Paul Robinson and Scott Carson having committed expensive errors during the doomed Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.

Almunia is currently the in-form goalkeeper in the Premier League after his penalty save in the 2-1 win over Tottenham at the weekend, but Capello will have to wait another year to pick him. “I will study my situation,” said Almunia. (more…)

The EPL Returns, following England shambles

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Club footballs resume this weekend following last week International schedules. England failed to qualify for EURO 2008. It’s a shamed that with the players they have, they can’t even managed to get a draw.

The whole England saga was really a shamed story starting from the first when former United’s second man Steve McClaren was appointed as Sven successor.  McClaren may be a good coach but it’s obvious that he was lacking experience as well. Middlesbrough was his only club management club in his cv.

Hopefully, the England FA will dig-out their root cause and appoint a right candidate for the top job and shall focus for the next event - the World Cup 2010 with new group of players given the current “golden-generation” will probably near the last path of their career.

England 3-0 Russia: Owen Shows

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Owen Scored against RussiaEngland second 3-0 win in double header Euro 2008 qualifier matches against Israel and Russia at Wembley have suddenly turn themselves as favorite to win the group.

Michael Owen hit 40th goal for England, he scored in the opening 7th minute pouncing on a loose ball in penalty area to slot home with his right foot. His second was spectacular, scoring with half volley assist by Heskey headed down ball after squeezing between two Russia defenders in the 31st minute.

Rio Ferdinand wrap up the score sheet by slotting home in the 84th minute after some good work by Owen in the penalty area. His second international goal since the 2002 World Cup. So, six month after suffering the worst abuse ever directed at an England manger, Steve McClaren now knows that England require just five points from the remaining three games to qualify, providing one of them comes in the return meeting with Russia next month. Three Lions Finally Bites

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Haha! The title sound quite weird right? Not so for me, after all this is England’s head coach Steve McClaren’s first win at Wembley. More interesting, the team has missed some couple of “big” names. Frank fat Lampard not playing, Hargreaves out, David Beckham suffering injury in LA Galaxy matches, hence, who has been drafted in to fill the void?

Shaun Wright-Phillips, Emile Heskey, Gareth Barry and Micah Richards filling the right-back slot for the injured Gary Neville. The former three was a direct replacement for David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard. (more…)
