Manchester United vs Lyon - Champions League

Ryan Giggs is Sir Alex Ferguson’s only doubt ahead of the clash with Lyon as he is struggling with a calf problem. The Welsh winger has been hampered by the injury since the first leg of the Champions League tie.

Ferguson said: “The knock he took in the Lyon game has proved to be a bit more complicated than we first thought. “He did a bit in training on Monday morning but he is still doubtful for the game.”

Giggs is unlikely to be risked but Serbia defender Nemanja Vidic looks set to return to the side. He trained following a similar injury to Giggs and looks likely to resume his partnership with Rio Ferdinand at the back.

Meanwhile, Ferguson is banking on Manchester United chalking up another important milestone and advancing to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Man United vs Newcastle : Preview

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

Having prepared to meet his old friend at Old Trafford on Saturday for Newcastle match, Sam Allardyce was sack on Wednesday, just 24 games into his St James’ Park reign. Sir Alex does not miss the opportunity to criticize Newcastle and only have themselves to blame for almost four decades of chronic underachievement.

St James Park has almost become a suicide ground for any manger, Newcastle are searching for their 11th manager during Ferguson 21 years with the Red Devils. Their former manager includes some of the biggest names in the game, none of whom have achieved any tangible success. The expectation levels at Newcastle are too great, a lot of people are saying that now. Until they learned to stand by their man I suppose there will still be grey days ahead for the Toon’s army. Manchester United travel to the Reebok Stadium to play against Bolton later today. The Red Devils could miss the man Ryan Giggs calls their “extra dimension” in Carlos Tevez.
