Cristiano Ronaldo protests he is innocence and should not been red carded by referee Steve Bennett in the midweek draw with Portsmouth. Ronaldo is currently serving a three-match ban following his dismissal for an apparent headbutt on Pompey’s Richard Hughes in the Fratton Park clash. He will miss today early kick-off match with Manchester City which have won both their opening 2 matches, Tottenham Hotspur and newly promoted Sunderland who is under the leadership of our former captain marvel Roy Keane.
Ronaldo refused to accept the red card he was given was justified. Prior to the red card, Hughes came straight to Ronaldo by putting both hand on the latter’s neck, Ronaldo quickly opened his arm in a “that’s enough” way.
Ronaldo added “We pushed each other but nothing serious, we leaned heads against each other but that was all. Absolutely nothing else happened. When I saw the red card, I couldn’t believe it, the situation was so surreal. And it’s absurd because I’m aware that now I’ll sit out a ban for something I didn’t do. I feel dejected and very sad.”
