Sir Alex Ferguson completed his summer signing with the unexpected arrival of Bebe from Vitoria Guimaraes in a £7 million deal, despite having only joined the Portuguese club on a free transfer from a third-tier side five weeks previously.

Little was known about the 20-year-old but it quickly turns lighting strike fascinating story, having previously spent time on the streets. Ferguson acted quickly to sign Bebe without seeing Bebe in action on a football pitch, instead, he relied on glowing recommendations from his Portuguese coaching staff.

Javier Hernandez, aka Chicharito (“Little Green Pea”), was signed before the World Cup started. Chicharito has quickly climbed up the ranks of Mexican football. As top scorer in the Primera Division de Mexico with 17 goals, he earned a place in the Mexico squad for the 2010 World Cup. Hernandez deal was signed back in April 2010 in the region of £8 million.

Chris Smalling was snapped from Fulham in a shock move in January 2010 that at the same time he was loaned back to Fulham for the remaining of the season. The defender attracted the attention of the league’s elite with his performances and after Arsenal and United both made bids, he opted to join Red Devils. He was signed as a future successor to Rio Ferdinand, Smalling shares many of his qualities – including calmness on the ball, accurate distribution and solid aerial ability. Chris Smalling cost a £7 million transfer fees United paid to Fulham.
