After two successive Premiership matches draw with Reading last Sunday and follow by Portsmouth in the midweek, United suffered the worst start in the last 8 years in their Premiership campaign. In addition to the lost of Wayne Rooney through injury United will face their City rival this Sunday without last year double PFA winner of the year Cristiano Ronaldo who himself was red carded for violent conduct.

Rooney will be out for two months with a broken foot and this is the third time he suffered broken foot. Wayne is a big loss because he has been in such a good form during pre-season moreover with both Saha and Solksjaer still on the treatment table meant United only have Tevez to rely on for now.

Gaffer Sir Alex and Carlos Queiroz have both condemned Ronaldo for allowing himself provoked into the rush of blood that has brought him automatic three match ban. Ronaldo foolishly fell into trap of Portsmouth substitute Richard Hughes who had pushed him during a goalmouth melee by head-butting in return.

Tevez who made his debut, watched by his controversial agent Kia Joorabchian set up a sweet scoring strike for Paul Scholes in the 15th minute. The strike seemed the prelude to a strolling United triumph, however, Portsmouth which had score three victories in four of United previous visits to Fratton Park equalize in the 53rd minute through Benjani.

Tevez and Vidic almost stole the shows with a breathtaking near-misses in Pompey Goalmouth before the finale, and with Pompey new 6 million pound Nugent also missing couple of chances, the initially tepid clash turned into heart scare for both manager.
