Arsenal ended Manchester City perfect start to the Barclays Premier League season thanks to Cesc Fabregas goal at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners came into the game more after City had the best of the early chances but Manuel Almunia was forced to save well at Mpenza’s feet just after the hour mark. City keeper Kasper Schmeichel son of United legend Peter Schmeichel saved Robin van Persie’s penalty following Micah Richard’s foul on Aleksandr Hleb.
Chelsea won 1-0 against Portsmouth at Stamford Bridge although not at their best from Frank Lampard shot from 18 yards had too much power for David James, who could only deflect it weakly into the net.
Liverpool won more comfortably away to Sunderland with a 2-0 goals from Mohamed Sissoko and Andriy Voronin, it could be more worst if not for the heroic of Craig Gordon.
Elsewhere, Bolton boss Sammy Lee won his first Premiership game with 3-0 thrashing off Reading at the Reebok Stadium thanks to goal from Gary Speed, Nicolas Anelka and Daniel Braaten put salt into Reading wound by added a third from Anelk’s brilliant cross.
At Pride Park Stadium, Derby were beaten 2-1 by Birmingham. M. Oakley 51 minute goal sandwiched in between C. Jerome goals scored in the 1st & 63 minute to seal away win for Steve Bruce.
Villa Park saw Aston Villa come from a goal down to claim 2-1 win over Fulham with Fulham’s C. Baird red carded in the 68 minute. Fulham were leading in the 6 minute from C. Dempsey goal only for Z. Knight to score an own goal in the 51 minute. Villa were lucky to get an injury time winning goal through S. Maloney.
West Ham, Wigan , Everton and Blackburn were all held to a 1-1 draw. Wigan take the lead through P. Scharner in the 78 minute against West Ham only for L. Bowyer of West Ham to equalize in 81 minute.
Blackburn’s R. Santa Cruz scored the first goal in the 15 minute at Goodison Park and looks on course to emerge as a winner. But J. McFadden proves otherwise in the 78 minute to salvage a point for the home team.
